HOUSTON — Oilfield services company Baker Hughes Inc. says the number of rigs actively exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. dropped 15 this week to 1,776.
The Houston-based company said in its weekly report Friday that 1,382 rigs were exploring for oil and 387 for gas. Seven were listed as miscellaneous. A year ago there were 1,898 active rigs.
Of the major oil- and gas-producing states, California lost five rigs; Colorado dropped four; Louisiana, North Dakota and Utah each decreased by three; Ohio and Wyoming each dropped two; and West Virginia lost one. Texas gained two rigs, while Kansas and Pennsylvania each rose by one.
Alaska, Arkansas, New Mexico and Oklahoma were unchanged.
