Police seek two men who beat woman during Hammond store robbery

Hammond police searched Friday for two men accused of beating a woman at a South Spruce Street business and robbing the store.

Police were called Tuesday to Gold Buyers at 102 S. Spruce St. and found a woman who had been beaten up, Lt. Vincent Giannobile said in a news release.

The woman said she opened the door for the men. One of them beat her and the other rummaged through the drawers and took two money bags containing $22, Giannobile said.

The men ran away down West Morris Street. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.

One man is described as a dark-skinned black male, possibly 18 to 22 years old, standing 6 feet tall with a skinny build and smooth face. The other man is described as a dark-skinned black male, also 18 to 22 years old, standing 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build, full face and cleft chin.
