The Livingston Parish Animal Control Advisory Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Livingston Parish Council chambers.

Committee members are to discuss policies and procedures as well as budgetary matters for a potential parishwide animal control operation for Livingston.

The Parish Council chambers are located at 20355 Government Boulevard in Livingston.

Cry Out America

The 2013 Cry Out America 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony and Prayer Service will be Sept. 11 beginning at 11:45 a.m. in the Livingston Parish Council Chambers in Livingston.

Residents, businesses, government agencies, schools and churches are invited to the event.

Clerk of Court Tom Sullivan will be the master of ceremonies. Program participants include Chief Judge Bob Morrison; state Reps. Rogers Pope, R-Denham Springs; and Valerie Hodges, R-Denham Springs; Parish President Layton Ricks; Sheriff Jason Ard; Registrar of Voters and Pastor Delmas Taylor; Denham Springs Mayor Pro-Tem Arthur Perkins; parish Councilman Marshall Harris; parish Councilwoman and teacher Sonya Collins’ seventh-grade class; Mary Glover; and pastors Val Taylor, Jesse Bourgoyne, Fred Dyess, Wes Courtney, Trent Barnett and Mike DiMaria. Patriotic music will be performed by the Livingston Parish Children’s Choirs with Barbara Walker and Melanie Rushing.

Boat launch changes

The Livingston Parish Council on Thursday approved a new ordinance regulating the parish’s public boat launches.

The new ordinance says public boat launches can only be used to launch boats. Picnicking, loitering, swimming and littering will not be allowed.

The original proposal called for a $100 fine for violations, but Councilwoman Joan Landry motioned to raise the fine to $300.

Landry’s motion passed unanimously.

The new ordinance will not affect private boat launches, Landry said Thursday.

Libraries closed

All branches of the Livingston Parish Library will be closed Labor Day, Sept. 2.

Regular business hours will resume Sept. 3.

Voter registration

The Department of State and the Livingston Parish Registrar of Voters Office will conduct Voter Registration Week on Monday through Friday.

Staff will be traveling throughout the parish delivering voter registration forms and information booklets to local town halls, libraries, schools and banks.
