PRAIRIEVILLE — Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies are looking for an unidentified woman who stole a wallet July 29 at Wal-Mart in Prairieville and later rang up more than $2,500 in fraudulent charges in New Orleans.
The woman used a credit card from the wallet to buy electronics and gift cards at Wal-marts in the New Orleans area, sheriff’s Maj. Kevin Hanna said in a news release Wednesday.
Some later attempts to make charges on the credit card were declined, and the card was deactivated.
Deputies released surveillance video Wednesday of the woman as she unsuccessfully tried to withdraw money from the victim’s bank in Hammond by using the victim’s driver’s license photograph, deputies said.
The woman fled the bank after the Hammond Police Department was notified, deputies said.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office at (225) 621-INFO (4636), by texting 847411 to an anonymous tip line from any cellular device or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-STOP (7867).
