An interfaith prayer breakfast to commemorate the eighth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Treme Community Center, 900 North Villere St. in New Orleans.
The focus will be to call for action on climate change to help reduce its effects, including extreme weather events like Hurricane Katrina.
Speakers will include Walt Leger, Speaker Pro Tempore of the Louisiana House of Representatives; state Senator JP Morrell; New Orleans City Councilwoman Kristin Palmer; Charles Allen, Mayor’s adviser and director of Coastal and Environmental Affairs; Anne Milling, founder of Women of the Storm; Telley Madina, Oxfam America’s Coastal Communities program officer; Mark Romig, president of the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corp.; and LaTanja Silvester, SEIU political and organizing director.
Religious leaders will include Archbishop Gregory Aymond, Imam Rafeeq Numan, the Rev. Norwood Thompson, Jr. and others. Organizations in attendance will include Global Green, USA Alliance for Affordable Energy, St. Bernard Project and others.
