Tangipahoa recovers guns stolen from Hammond police

Authorities have recovered two guns stolen last week from a Hammond Police Department vehicle but were still looking on Tuesday for the people who took the firearms, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

The vehicle, a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe, was burglarized on La. 1054 in Kentwood sometime between 10 p.m. Thursday and 6:30 a.m. Friday, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The thieves took two firearms from the vehicle — a black Glock model 22 with a Hammond Police Department badge insignia etched into the top of the slide, and a black Remington 870 Police Magnum pump shotgun with a 14-inch barrel.

Anyone with information about the identity of the burglars is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 554-5245.
