Rod Walker, an award-winning sports reporter for the The Clarion-Ledger, has joined The New Orleans Advocate to lead the newspaper’s coverage of area high school sports.

Walker, who spent nearly a decade at the paper in Jackson, Miss., will oversee coverage in the New Orleans area with assistance from veteran sportswriters Ted Lewis and Jim Derry.

While at Mississippi’s largest newspaper, Walker was a leading voice in statewide high school sports coverage, compiling the Clarion-Ledger’s Dandy Dozen and all-state teams, along with overseeing the paper’s nationally recognized high school football preview section.

Walker won several awards while at the Clarion-Ledger, including awards from the Mississippi Associated Press Managing Editors, for features, enterprise and best blog.

The New Orleans Advocate will begin offering complete coverage of area prep sports this month.
