Construction company Arkel International is the highest-ranking Baton Rouge-area firm on the 2013 Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies, while New Orleans firm Hernandez Consulting leads the state.
Arkel ranked No. 1891 on the list, which is based on revenue growth over three years. Arkel’s revenue was $43.9 million, up 201 percent.
Hernandez, a government services firm, was the state’s highest-ranked firm at No. 526. The company’s revenue jumped 867 percent to $16.8 million.
Arkel President George H. Knost III said his company is an infrastructure and essential services company that helps oil and gas companies and the U.S. government with their most challenging projects in the most difficult environments.
“Arkel’s willingness to support our customers in remote locations, and then to execute on such projects has allowed us to strategically grow the business in a competitive global market,” Arkel said.
Hernandez Consulting, which grew from four workers to 19, provides project management, construction, design, environmental, design, environmental, sustainability and security services to the government sector.
Its growth has been largely driven by Veterans Affairs projects in Louisiana, including the hospital in New Orleans, and Texas, said Alex Hernandez, president and founder of Hernandez Consulting.
“That’s probably about two-thirds of our work,” he said.
In the 2012 Inc. 5000, Hernandez Consulting ranked No. 191 nationally but was second in Louisiana behind Lafayette-based Townsend, a network of addiction treatment clinics. Townsend ranked No. 182 on the 2012 list.
