An autopsy found that a man whose body was discovered Saturday just off Interstate 10 near the Michoud Boulevard exit was beaten to death, prompting the Orleans Parish coroner’s office to classify the death a homicide.
The man, whose identity remained unknown Monday, had likely been dead between two and three days when he was found, said John Gagliano, the coroner’s chief investigator.
Police have not released any other information about the case.
A 20-year-old woman was stabbed in the neck early Saturday morning as she walked in Uptown.
Police said the victim was near the corner of Delachaise and South Liberty streets about 7 a.m. when an unknown man walked up to her and stabbed her.
The victim, who was not identified, was treated at a local hospital. Police did not provide a description of the assailant.
New Orleans police arrested a grandmother after she allegedly cut her granddaughter during an argument.
Police said Williemae Eagleton, 59, was arguing with her 20-year-old granddaughter about 4:20 a.m. Sunday at a home in the 3000 block of Milan Street when the dispute became physical. Eagleton grabbed a knife and stabbed her granddaughter in the leg, police said.
Eagleton was booked with aggravated battery, according to Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office records.
A 27-year-old man was shot in the head as he sat in his car Sunday night in the 7th Ward, police said.
The victim, who was not identified, was in his car in the 1500 block of North Miro Street when two men walked up about 8:20 p.m. and opened fire, according to a daily police log. His condition was not available.
Police did not provide descriptions of the gunmen or any information on a motive.
New Orleans police are investigating the rape of a woman late Friday in New Orleans East.
According to a police log, the 37-year-old victim was sexually assaulted by a male friend about 9:30 p.m. in the 9100 block of Morrison Road.
Police did not provide any other information on the incident.
Frustrated that a friend didn’t have $20 to spare, Nelson Henry grabbed a hatchet and plunged it into his leg, police said.
Henry, 56, was at his friend’s home in the 300 block of South Salcedo Street about 7 p.m. Saturday when he asked to borrow the money.
When his 53-year-old friend said there was no money to be had, Henry grabbed the hatchet and cut the man on his leg, police said.
Henry remained jailed Monday on a count of aggravated battery, according to Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office records.
