Two former LSU ROTC cadets spoke to the Maj. Gen. O.B. Johnson Chapter of the Air Force Association on July 17.
Jones said he is proud of how the chapter has supported cadets and Silver Sings at LSU.
The chapter meets at 6:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at the Great Wall Restaurant, 3132 College Drive. The public is invited.
Members of the International Chili Society Louisiana and Regional Chili Cook-off Committee presented a $5,000 check to Our Lady of Lake Regional Medical Center Foundation for the Children’s Hospital on Aug. 6. The check is from proceeds from the chili cook-off in March at LSU.
Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital is the second largest children’s hospital in Louisiana. It is one of only six facilities in the nation affiliated with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, allowing hundreds of children to receive cancer treatments close to home and family.
Inner Wheel members were invited to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul on Aug. 1 to view their new icemaker, which was bought from funds received from this year’s Attic Trash and Treasure Sale.
The Excalibur Club honored Don Imhoff for his volunteer work for Pilots for Patients on Aug. 9 at the Baton Rouge Marriott.
Pilots for Patients assists those in need of air transportation for medical purposes. The goal is to eliminate the burden of travel to let patients concentrate on getting better. Imhoff has flown more than 160 missions transporting patients to medical facilities and is on the Pilots for Patients Board of Directors.
Air Force Airman Kirklandt Smith graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. Smith is the son of Kimberly Smith, of Baton Rouge, and is a 2012 graduate of Tara High School.
Laureate Alpha Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held its summer social on Aug. 10 at Bob and Virginia Huffman’s home. In keeping with the party’s theme, guests wore their clothes backward and the dinner was served in reverse, starting with dessert.
After the main course, guests played bunco, with appetizers being served last, during the game.
Attending were Jean Leyda, social chairwoman; committee members Verlyne LeBlanc and Ruth Mannen, and Dixie Gregory, Audie and Gail Keller, Sandy Linder, Cleve LeBlanc, Bill Mannen, Page Meyer, Anne Smith and Phyllis Turner.
Turner, past president, received a crystal pitcher and the chapter scrapbook of events during her term in office.
