One man died and three others were hospitalized with serious injuries Sunday following a head-on collision on La. 18 in St. James Parish, State Police said.
A 2004 Jeep Liberty driven by Julio Cuxum, of Baton Rouge, was headed south on La. 18 at about 6 p.m. As it approached a curve, the SUV drifted into the northbound lane and struck a 2004 Infinity I35 head-on, said Trooper Evan Harrell, a State Police Troop C spokesman.
The driver of the Infinity, Antonio Harrison, 52, of St. James, was pronounced dead at the scene, Harrell said.
Two of Harrison’s passengers were transported to a hospital with serious injuries, Harrell said.
No one in the Infinity was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, Harrell said.
Cuxum, who was wearing a seat belt, was also transported to a hospital with serious injuries.
Alcohol impairment is believed to be a factor in the crash, Harrell said, adding that the crash remains under investigation.
