A deputy with the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office was arrested on drug-related counts Wednesday evening, Sheriff Bud Torres said Thursday.

Joseph Reed Bueche, 51, 6181 Fausse Bayou Road, Ventress, was fired following his arrest, the sheriff said.

“There is nothing worse than a cop that goes bad and violates the trust of the community,” Torres said.

Torres said three people filed complaints stating that Bueche, a 10-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, was involved in drug activity. The complaints prompted the Sheriff’s Office to open an investigation into the matter, Torres said.

“We took the initial investigation to check the validity of the complaints,” Torres said. “Once we were able to substantiate that to some degree, we asked the Louisiana State Police to take over and make the actual arrest.”

Trooper Jared Sandifer, a State Police spokesman, said Thursday investigators were able to determine Bueche purchased illegal prescription medication at least twice while he was on duty.

Troopers arrested Bueche at 6 p.m. Wednesday and booked him into the Pointe Coupee Parish Jail on two counts of malfeasance in office. Bueche was released that night after posting a $10,000 bail.
