I-CAER sending emergency alerts

Iberville Parish residents can get emergency information during severe weather conditions or other emergency situations from the Iberville Office of Emergency Preparedness on their home or cellphones by logging on to the Iberville Community Awareness Emergency Response website at www.I-CAER.org.

Residents need to click on “Emergency Phone Notifications” at the bottom of the home page and complete a registration form to start receiving the alerts.

The I-CAER website also provides valuable hurricane information, home and personal safety tips, first-aid information and what-to-do lists for a variety of emergency situations.

Lunchtime lecture

The West Baton Rouge Museum presents, “A Yankee Blitzkrieg Stumbles: Baton Rouge, April 5, 1862,” a lunchtime lecture at noon Wednesday as part of the ongoing Atchafalaya National Heritage Area Civil War Sesquicentennial Commemorative Speakers Series.

Historian and author Charles Elliott will serve as the featured speaker.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

‘Belles’ auditions

The Iberville Community Theatre will hold auditions for “Christmas Belles” from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 15 and from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 17 in the Iberville Parish Library Main Branch meeting room.

The play is scheduled to be performed on Dec. 18-19.

There are 11 available roles for characters ranging from 20 to 60 years of age.

Those who audition can read from a script or prepare their own reading.

NAACP conference

The state conference for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday at the JPMAC Auditorium in New Roads.

Woodcarving art show

The Pointe Coupee Historical Society will present “Local Wood: Painted Carvings by A.B. Crochet and Henry Watson” at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Poydras Center in New Roads. The exhibit will include more than 50 painted woodcarvings from the two Pointe Coupee natives.

Tailgating fair

The West Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce is selling tickets for its “Tailgating Taste Fair” scheduled for 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Port Allen Community Center.

The chamber will award first-, second- and third-place honors for the best-decorated table and a people’s choice award will be given for the event’s best dish.

Meeting change

The West Baton Rouge Parish School Board committee meetings for August will be held at the Port Allen High School Library at 5 p.m. Tuesday, instead of at the school district’s Central Office.
