The New Orleans Saints front office and coaching staff had a busy day Monday as two players were signed, two were waived and two more were activated from the physically unable to perform list.
After getting a day off Sunday, the players had more bounce in their step after coach Sean Payton took them into the indoor practice facility for a two-hour workout.
“I think we moved around pretty well,” he said. “I thought the second part of the scrimmage you saw the heat get to us. Specifically in one area was the penalties — the pre-snap penalties and false starts. We have to get those things worked out.”
“Yeah, definitely. … He (Payton) is the best, I like him,” Lewis said. “I respect his opinion to come inside and practice. It’s like 110 degrees inside my car, so I didn’t want to go outside. Everybody executed their assignments and we had a good practice.”
Robinson, a four-year veteran, was thrilled to be back on the practice field even though he and Colston didn’t participate in 11-on-11 drills — only doing group and 7-on-7 work.
“It felt great to be back,” said Robinson, who had a team-leading three interceptions last season. “It was good to be out of the training room and back with my teammates. It’s definitely a lot of hard work (in rehab).
“I know the defense pretty well, so now the main thing for me is getting back in shape. I don’t know how long it’ll be before I’m 100 percent, but feel good right now.”
Saints officials announced Monday that three training camp practices originally scheduled to be open to the public will be closed.
The affected practices are on Aug. 8, Aug. 11 and Aug. 15 (Thursday). The Aug. 15 workout was scheduled to be the last one open to fans before camp breaks.
The remaining open practices are Tuesday and Wednesday of this week and Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (Aug. 12-14) of next week.
All of the five remaining open practices are set for 8:50-11:50 a.m. with gates opening at 8 a.m.
