More than 150 boys and girls age 7 to 15 were taught the fundamentals of basketball during the ninth annual Chris Duhon Basketball Camp at Fritchie Park gymnasium in Slidell. NBA journeyman Chris Duhon, a 2000 honors graduate of Salmen High School, teams up each year with Salmen coach Jay Carlin for the week-long camp.
Duhon founded the Stand Tall Foundation to raise money for scholarships through a variety of activities that include the basketball camp, a scholarship banquet and charity golf tournament.
This is the fourth year the scholarships have been awarded.
Leslie Malcolm “Mac” Blades of Lakeshore High School, Gisell Callahan of Covington High, Jacob Daniel McKay from Mandeville High, Christopher Michael Millagan of Slidell High, and Desiree Nicole Williams of Covington High were recipients of scholarships worth $5,000 each from the Stand Tall Foundation.
A resolution from the St. Tammany School Board stated, “The generosity of Mr. Duhon and the Stand Tall Foundation serves as an inspiration to our community and will directly benefit children and youth proving that the importance of education and hard work can lead to a successful and rewarding future.”
