A 33-year-old man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend in Baton Rouge and kidnapping the woman at gunpoint was captured Friday in Krotz Springs, authorities said.

Norman Gibson Jr., 4958 Poydras Bayou Road, Erwinville, was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on attempted first-degree murder and second-degree kidnapping, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks said.

The incidents occurred about 1 p.m. at the woman’s residence in the 1400 block of Jasper Avenue, Hicks said. The shooting victim was hit in the chest and transported to a hospital with serious injuries, Hicks said.

A couple of hours later, State Police spotted Gibson traveling in St. Landry, Hicks said. After a brief pursuit, Hicks said, authorities stopped Gibson on U.S. 190 in Krotz Springs, where they found the woman unharmed.

Gibson was first booked in St. Landry as a fugitive from East Baton Rouge, where he was later transported, Hicks said.

State Police, state Wildlife and Fisheries agents, deputies in West Baton Rouge, Pointe Coupee and Iberville parishes and police in Livonia, Addis and Brusly and other area law enforcement agencies assisted in locating Gibson.

“This is a perfect example of what can be accomplished if we all work together,” East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said.
