The Pelicans have signed rookie center Jeff Withey from Kansas after acquiring his draft rights in the Tyreke Evans trade.

Terms of the contract were not released.

Withey (7-foot-0) ended his college career as the school and Big 12 all-time blocked shots leader with 312. He was the league’s defensive player of the year for the past two seasons and averaged 13.5 points and 8.5 rebounds for the Jayhawks as a senior.

Withey was the 39th overall selection in this year’s draft, taken by the Portland Trail Blazers in the second round.

He was then traded to the Pelicans along with Evans in a three-way deal with Sacramento in exchange for Greivis Vasquez and Robin Lopez.

Playing for the Pelicans in the Las Vegas Summer League, Withey led the team with 1.5 blocks per game.

New uniforms on the way

The Pelicans will unveil their new uniforms at 1 p.m. Thursday at their practice facility.

The event will be broadcast live on Pelicans.com. Fans can tune in to see the new uniforms and watch live interviews from the event.

The event will also include a Pelicans Junior Training Camp following the unveiling.

‘Jam Session’ ambassadors

Davis, Evans and Austin Rivers will serve as NBA All-Star Jam Session ambassadors for next February’s event in New Orleans.

The All-Star Jam Session, to be held in the Morial Convention Center, offers fans an interactive basketball theme park with activities of all types.

It is the 22nd year the league has offered the jam session in addition to the All-Star game itself.

Davis, Evans and Rivers will be promoting the event locally in the coming months.

The 63rd NBA All-Star game will happen Feb. 16, 2014, in the New Orleans Arena.
