BAYOU CORNE — Assumption Parish officials asked Pierre Part and Bayou Corne residents Tuesday to conserve water because of a water line break.
The parish waterworks plans to start repairs at 8 a.m. Wednesday, parish officials said, but it was not clear Tuesday afternoon when the work would be finished.
A water line along the south side of La. 70 South was found broken and bubbling water Tuesday near the entrance to the Texas Brine Co. facility, parish officials said.
“I don’t think anyone has lost pressure,” said John Boudreaux, director of the parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.
But parish officials said in a blog post that it’s unclear whether outages could occur later.
Boudreaux said officials would look into the cause of the break and determine which of two water lines along La. 70 had failed: a 12-inch line serving several thousand people in Pierre Part and Belle River or a 6-inch line serving a few hundred people in Bayou Corne.
The Bayou Corne area has been under a mandatory evacuation for nearly a year due to a nearby sinkhole.
