Less than a week after the Capitol Park Museum was the site of one of summer’s most exciting events — Forum 35’s Art Melt — it was again the center of attention July 25 as the Louisiana State Museum Friends gathered for its annual meeting and reception. Outgoing President Frances Bennett called the meeting to order before turning over the gavel to her successor, Lana Sonnier Venable. Before stepping down, Bennett also presented the Volunteer of the Year Award to Tom Bergman and the President’s Award to Charles Bennett for their service to the Friends. In her first official act, Venable presented Bennett with a Mignon Faget “Red Stick” necklace in recognition of her leadership.
Elected along with Venable were Vice President Ben Pierce, Secretary Denise Roussel, Treasurer Carolyn Morris and new board members Sarah Roland, Sarah Dupree, Megan Knapp, Holly Strange and Jarvis Green. Remaining on the board were Caryn Roland, Bergman and Derek Mathews. Thanked for their service and given gifts of appreciation were outgoing board members Mary Kay Bertaut, Jamie Craig, Rosa Dunn, Tanja Foil and Lillie Gallagher.
Special guest for the evening was Louisiana State Museum Division Director Robert Wheat, who thanked the Louisiana State Museum Friends for its support over the past four years.
Food for the reception was by Heirloom Cuisine. Rosa Dunn and Mary Kay Bertaut chaired the event.
