We would check just one box on the options sheet for Ford’s 2013 F-150 Limited pickup. Everything else you can imagine is already included.
The only thing we’d spring extra for is Ford’s revolutionary tailgate step that costs $375. There’s really nothing else the new F-150 Limited needs.
Standard equipment includes navigation, satellite radio, SYNC with MyFordTouch, rain-sensing wipers, HID headlights, remote start, heated and cooled front seats, heated back seats, rearview cameras, trailer brakes with a controller, a tow package and a 110-volt outlet.
The truck also has enough power equipment to put a strain on Riverbend. There’s a power rear window, a power moonroof, a power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, power pedals, power folding mirrors and even power running boards that retract when you get inside the cab and shut the door.
Folks, this truck has it all. Ford says it’s the most refined F-150 yet.
Ford Group Vice President for Product Development Raj Nair said there is a trend among truck buyers towards more luxury to go along with capability.
In fact, more than 30 percent of all Ford F-150 sales are of high-end trims like the King Ranch, Harley-Davidson and Platinum, all with MSRP’s that start above $35,000 and head north of $50-grand. With a starting price of $52,455, the Limited surpasses them all.
The cab of our Limited test truck was decked out in rich, red-and-black, full-grain leather. On the center console was chrome plate that identified the truck as “2013 Vehicle #1159” of the specially-made Limited models. Also emblazoned on the plate was the truck’s VIN number and the word L-I-M-I-T-E-D. The exterior of the bed carried the same mark in raised letters, leaving no doubt as to its heritage.
The Limited model comes only in the SuperCrew configuration, and our test truck had 4WD. Options on the truck included one of the few game-changing innovations to come along in years: the tailgate step. Simple to deploy, use and stow, the tailgate step is designed for us 50-something baby boomers who can no longer spring up into the bed of the truck. A $250 bed extender and $475 for the factory spray-on bed liner brought the bottom line on the test truck to $54,550, including $995 in freight.
Powering the Limited F-150 is Ford’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that kicks out 365 horsepower and an impressive 420 lb.-ft. of torque.
The engine is hooked to a smooth-shifting electronic 6-speed automatic transmission. Mileage estimates for that engine with 4WD are 15 miles per gallon in the city and 21 mpg on the road. The 2WD version gets one mpg better on the highway.
With its 36-gallon tank, the Limited F-150 has a potential range of more than 750 highway miles. This is great news for truck owners – city slickers or farm hands – who hate to stop their busy day to refuel the truck.
The Limited F-150 rolls on 22-inch polished aluminum wheels and comes in three exterior colors: Ruby Red Metallic, Tuxedo Black Metallic and White Platinum Metallic.
The 2013 F-150 is also a “Top Safety Pick” from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety with a full complement of airbags, including a safety canopy.
