A 2-year-old boy was rushed to a West Bank hospital on Thursday after being shot in the face, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
The shooting happened a little after 4 p.m. in the 1600 block of Apache Drive in Harvey.
The boy’s father was putting his son into the back seat of his car when he made eye contact with a man who stood nearby, said Col. John Fortunato, a sheriff’s office spokesman.
The gunman, who stood near another car and two women, opened fire on the father. The father was not hit, but a bullet passed through one of the car’s doors and wounded the boy. His injury was superficial, Fortunato said.
The man drove his son to Ochsner Medical Center on the west bank. The boy was later moved to the hospital’s Jefferson campus, Fortunato said. The father told investigators he did not know why the gunman shot at him, Fortunato said.
Investigators did not immediately release any information on a motive or suspect in the shooting.
