COVINGTON — Mayor Mike Cooper says he expects to choose a new police chief in October.
The St. Tammany Parish city is taking applications for the post, which has been vacant since Chief Richard Palmissano was fired in April.
Cooper says applicants must pass a written civil service examination before being interviewed. The test will be administered on Aug. 13 and those interested must apply by July 24, the mayor says.
Because the police chief is a civil service position, the Covington Fire and Civil Service Board will test and screen applicants before sending a list of qualified candidates to Cooper, who will make the appointment.
