Annual coaches clinic starts Tuesday in BR

College fraternities have end-of-the-semester parties. Summer camps put on plays before sending young campers home with their parents.

The Louisiana High School Coaches Association has its own ritual — the LHSCA Coaches Clinic that begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Crowne Plaza.

Guest speakers, business meetings for the LHSCA and various sports and rules clinics for football and volleyball are set. The three-day event continues through Thursday morning.

Speakers include Texas A&M men’s basketball coach Billy Kennedy, Louisiana-Lafayette football coach Mark Hudspeth, Southern men’s basketball coach Roman Banks, Northwestern State men’s basketball coach Mike McConathy and LSU-Eunice baseball coach Jeff Willis.

Sessions start at 9 a.m. Tuesday and continue through 6 p.m. The LHSCA general business meeting is set for 2 p.m. McConathy and Georgia volleyball coach Lizzy Stemke speak at 9 a.m., while Banks speaks at 10 a.m.

Hudspeth and Kennedy are scheduled to speak at 1 p.m. Tuesday, while Tuesday sessions for Willis start at 3 p.m.

Wednesday’s sessions also start at 9 a.m. and continue through 5 p.m. Louisiana-Monroe football coach Todd Berry (9 a.m.) and Houston softball coach Kyla Holas (10 a.m. and 11 a.m.) are among the morning speakers. Holas is a former UL-Lafayette All-American.

Football speakers from Texas A&M are set for 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. The evening ends with a barbecue for football coaches at LSU football operations building. Admission is $5, in accordance with NCAA rules. Assistant coaches Frank Wilson and Cam Cameron are scheduled to speak at the barbecue.

Thursday’s sessions run from 9 a.m. through 11 a.m. LSU basketball assistant Charlie Leonard and Citadel wrestling coach Jeff Ragan are scheduled to be featured speakers.
