The Department of Transportation and Development is closing La. 431 just north of St. Amant High School at 7 a.m. Saturday to remove and replace a cross drain pipe under the road.
The road is expected to reopen at 3 p.m. Sunday.
St. Amant High School Future Farmers of America club is holding an indoor garage sale Friday and Saturday in the school cafeteria.
The club will be selling a variety of items and sweets from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.
The Community Opportunities The Arc of East Ascension’s thrift store is open five days of week at 108 E. Ascension St., Gonzales.
COEA spokeswoman Cheryl Rice said the Treasurers of the Arc resale shop provides jobs and work training for the agency’s clients.
Residents are asked to drop off donations and shop for “little treasures,” Rice said.
The store hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Jonathan McKeough, a swimmer for the Pelican Point Waves and Tiger Aquatics, will represent Louisiana at the 2013 Southern Zone Age Group Championships.
He will join three of his Tiger Aquatics teammates at the nine-day competition at the Westside Aquatic Complex in Greenville, S.C.
McKeough is a recent graduate of St. Theresa Middle School and will enter Catholic High School in August.
St. Elizabeth Physicians and its Diabetes Education Program are planning Kidsfest: A Day of Health and Wellness Just for Kids.
The program will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 17 in the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center gym.
Families and children of all ages are welcome to attend the free event.
In addition to a 1K Fun Run for families, there will also be more than 25 interactive exhibits showcasing organizations and services throughout the parish, free children’s health screenings, a marketplace area featuring specialty children’s items, demonstrations and presentations and a “get moving” activity area.
Fliers and complimentary tickets are available at all St. Elizabeth Physicians Clinics, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Ascension Parish Primary and middle schools and area businesses.

The Community Education Department of St. Elizabeth Hospital is hosting Loss and Grief Education and Support Meetings Aug. 1, Aug. 8, Aug. 15, Aug. 22 and Aug. 29 at the hospital’s Sister Vernola conference room.
