Broadway, NOCCA series releases lineup

Advocate staff report

On the heels of its successful first season in 2012-13, the Broadway @ NOCCA concert series has announced the first half of its second season.

Four of New York theater’s leading ladies, one of whom is famously a man in disguise, will perform in New Orleans in 2013-14 as the series leaps again to New Orleans Center of Creative Arts’ Lupin Hall from its summer home at The Art House in Provincetown, Mass.

Jane Krakowski, a three-time Emmy Award nominee for 30 Rock, and a Tony Award winner for Broadway’s Nine, will perform on Monday, Oct. 7. Broadway legend Patti LuPone, a two-time Tony Award winner for Gypsy and as the original Evita, will perform on Saturday, Nov. 16. Charles Busch, a Tony Award nominee for his play, The Allergist’s Wife, and Drama Desk Award winner for lifetime achievement as a performer and playwright, makes his NOCCA debut on Monday, Dec. 2, with special guest Varla Jean Merman, the man disguised as a woman. Finally, Christine Ebersole, a two-time Tony Award winner for Grey Gardens and 42nd Street, makes her series debut on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014.

The series of concerts is produced again by Mark Cortale and is hosted again by Seth Rudetsky at the piano. Four more performers will be announced shortly for the second half of the Broadway @ NOCCA season.
