The Price LeBlanc Toyota and Nissan Swamp Pop Music Festival expects to welcome more than 6,000 visitors Friday and Saturday to the air-conditioned Lamar-Dixon Expo Center’s Trademart building for a fundraiser to fight cystic fibrosis, organizers said.

Van and Grace Broussard will kick off the event at 6 p.m. Friday. They will be followed by Warren Storm; Willie T & Cypress with Charles Mann; and Don Rich will wrap it up around midnight.

On Saturday, the music is non-stop from noon to 11:30 p.m. featuring Ronnie Melancon and Friends, Aaron Foret, South 70 Band, Kenny Fife and Bac Trac, Kenny Cornett and Killin’ Time, Tommy G and Stormy Weather, and Junior LaCrosse and Sumtin Sneaky will close out the festival.

In addition to the music, the festival will feature a two-day Jambalaya Festival Association Cook-Off where visitors can sample jambalaya and cooks compete for prizes.

A motorcycle poker run presented by The Wild Pigs Motorcycle Club will be held Saturday. Contestants will receive prizes for the best and worst hands.

Proceeds from the Swamp Pop Music Festival benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, which aims to find a cure for CF and to better the quality of life for those with the disease.

Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening genetic disease that causes the body to produce abnormally thick, sticky mucus that clogs the airways and leads to lung infections. The Swamp Pop Music Festival began as a grassroots effort to support the CF Foundation in 1998 and is now one of the nation’s largest attended events the CF Foundation puts on in the country.

Admission to the 16th annual Swamp Pop Festival is $10 on Friday and $15 on Saturday.
