A man accused of pulling a gun on another man during a fight Sunday night was arrested later in the evening.
Ivan Fitzgerald, 50, 2261 Ellisade St., was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison with attempted second-degree murder, illegal carrying of a weapon, disturbing the peace by intoxication, felon in possession of a firearm and resisting an officer, Parish Prison records show.
A Baton Rouge police officer saw two men fighting at 6 p.m. after someone complained that they were fighting, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
The officer broke up the fight and saw a gun in the grass nearby.
Fitzgerald showed up at the victim’s home demanding someone inside leave with him, the affidavit says.
The man who lives in the home started fighting with Fitzgerald and during the fight, Fitzgerald pulled out a gun. The victim knocked the gun out of Fitzgerald’s hands, the affidavit says.
Baton Rouge firefighters battled three blazes Monday morning, including an arson at a house, but no one was injured.
The first fire was called in at 2:20 a.m. at an unoccupied office building at 4988 Underwood Ave., Fire Department spokesman Curt Monte said.
The second fire call came in at 3:36 a.m. at 1444 E. Harrison St., Monte said.
The fire at a vacant house was determined to be the result of an arson, after someone set fire to a couch on the front porch.
The fire spread from the porch and into the attic before it was brought under control.
The third fire was reported to the department less than 30 minutes later at 4 a.m.
The third fire was a house fire at 5654 Beech St., which started somewhere near the hot water heater and quickly spread to the attic before being brought under control, Monte said.
Anybody with any information about the fires is asked to call the Fire Department at (225) 354-1419.
