• Many Tanks: The Contemporary Arts Center opened a collective show, ‘Tank Drama: Deliberations from The Wet Grave,’ reflections on Hurricane Katrina and the city’s recovery.
• Shots of Bourbon: The music was in the Superdome, but the action is always on Bourbon Street. For locals and visitors alike, the French Quarter strip was a hotspot during the 19th Annual Essence Festival. The 2013 Essence Festival had the largest attendance in the festival’s history, drawing more than 540,000.
• One for the Books: Le Sanctuary, a New Orleans-based book club, presented its annual “Gathering of Family and Friends” benefit at The Stage Door Canteen, inside The American Sector in The National WWII Museum. The nonprofit raises money for scholarships while encouraging an appreciation of diverse literary figures.
