Events featured in the July 11th edition of The New Orleans Advocate:

• Artist George Schmidt unveiled his new painting, “Queen of Carnival, 2002,” while he held court at the George Schmidt Gallery.

• Jean Bragg Gallery held an opening reception for the exhibit “Painted Cocktails,” featuring more than 40 original paintings of the city’s signature saloons and beverages. The exhibit was timed to herald New Orleans’ annual festival of mixology, Tales of the Cocktail.

• Ariodante Contemporary Craft Gallery opened its shared show, a summer celebration featuring more than a dozen artists, including Sandi Shiflett, Ann McLeod, Drake Fuller, Louise Guidry, Rita Coenson, Phillip Lightweis-Goff, Max Kennedy, Cheryl Grace and Betsy Meyers Green.

• Renowned video, performance and collage artist Rashaad Newsome, a New Orleans native, was honored with a reception at the home of Kell and Dorian Bennett. Newsome’s first solo exhibition, ‘King of Arms,’ opened at the New Orleans Museum of Art.
