The 2013 Chrysler 200 Limited sedan has an award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that kicks out 283 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque, which makes for spirited acceleration and a fun driving experience.
The 3.6-liter V6 in the 200 was named to “Ward’s 10 Best Engines” list, and it is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The base LX model and the Touring model both are outfitted with a 2.4-liter Inline 4 that delivers 173 horses and 166 lb.-ft. of torque.
The LX has a 4-speed automatic transmission and the Touring gets the 6-speed automatic. The LX starts at $18,995 and the Touring starts at $21,665.
The 2.4-liter engine gets 20 miles per gallon in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, while the larger 3.6-liter promises 19 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the road.
Our test car for the week was the Limited model with the V6, which starts around $25,000, and we have to think it’s the best choice – or at least the most fun to drive. Plus, the Limited model has a generous list of features and amenities that make driving easier and a lot more enjoyable.
And our test 200 looked, well…really cool. That’s partly because it came dressed in the optional S package ($495), which adds 18-inch aluminum wheels, black finishes (fog lamps, headlamp bezels, grille and badging), leather-trimmed seats, a perforated leather steering wheel and other sport accents.
The $1,295 navigation package option is, we think, also a good deal. It adds a 6.5-inch touch screen display with voice commands, Bluetooth connectivity and Chrysler’s Uconnect technology, plus a year of free satellite radio with a one-year Travel Link subscription and other features.
Last year, the model lineup included an S trim as a standalone model. This year, the S trim is now an option on the Touring and Limited models. A 200 convertible is also available.
On the road, our test 200 performed well with the V6 engine. There was a bit of lean in hard corners, and soundproofing could be improved, but overall, the driving experience was very nice. Braking was fine, and steering was on-center.
The mid-size sedan segment is loaded with excellent automobiles, but lots of them cost more than the 200, even when you add in some of the 200’s
Our test 200 Limited had a bottom line sticker price of $27,865. For that price, you’ll get the features above, plus 8-way adjustable heated front seats, dual exhausts, automatic halogen projector headlamps, remote start and a six-speaker Boston Acoustics sound system.
Meanwhile, the 2013 Chrysler 200 is a “Top Safety Pick” from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, with a full complement of airbags including side curtains, as well as standard anti-lock brakes and traction/stability control systems. Chrysler says all of its available safety features are standard on every model of the 2013 Chrysler 200.
There are better mid-size sedans on the market, but the $25,080 2013 Chrysler 200 Limited with the award-winning V6 engine presents good value for your hard-earned dollar.
