Pierre A. Capdau Charter School will host “Capdau C.A.R.E.S.” at the school, 4126 Canal St., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday
The school initiatives focuses on “Community, Academics, Resources, Education and Support.”
Students will receive school supplies at the event, and parents can get information on community business initiatives, support services available to families and school enrollment.

Educators can find themselves working twice as many hours in the classroom and at home yet still feel all students are not being reached.
Alex Hernandez, one of the leading thinkers on new, innovative school models will speak on the topics of blended or personalized learning and new thoughts for school design.
The program, designed for teachers, will be held from 5:15 p.m.-7 p.m. July 24 at New Orleans BioInnovation Center, 1441 Canal St.
The center will be open before and until 8 p.m. for teacher networking opportunities.
The New Orleans Summer Debate Institute will be held Monday through Friday at Norman Mayer Hall at Tulane University.
The institute is free and open to high school students who are brand-new to debate or just want to build their skills.
Quality debate instruction from experienced high school and college coaches and successful senior debaters will be offered.
Students can learn how to write cases, prepare blocks, give rebuttals and win rounds, and will participate in a camp tournament modeled on real debate tournaments.
Snacks and research materials provided. Choose among three tracks for new, moderately experienced or more experienced debaters.
Students should bring a notebook, pens, a laptop or tablet if they have one (not required), and a lunch if desired. All other materials will be provided.
