The Tangipahoa Social Services Coalition will present Dr. Murelle Harrison, from Southern University, during a suicide prevention seminar from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Tangipahoa Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council, 108 S. Pine St., Hammond.
The seminar targets students and professionals and helps them define suicide, understand suicidal ideation, and the role of the mental health professional.
Lunch for coalition members will be provided. There is a $5 fee for non-members.
The training is provided free of charge through workforce development funds provided to the Louisiana DHH/OBH and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Authority, and the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, and through the donations of staff time and service, and facilities from the local partners including Tangipahoa Drug and Alcohol Council.
