A teenager who shot another youth earlier this week during a fight over a blunt has died of wounds he suffered after a family member of the victim intervened in the fight.
Dondrell Cage Jr., 16, was pronounced dead at LSU Interim Hospital on Wednesday night, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
A months-long feud between Cage and Bobby Bruer, 16, spilled over into violence on Tuesday, when the two picked up an argument from the previous night over a blunt, or marijuana encased in a cigar wrapper.
During that argument, Cage shot Bruer several times with a 9 mm pistol in the parking lot of apartments at 2212 Giuffrias Ave., police said.
A relative of Bruer’s came to his aid, first attempting to wrest the gun away from Cage.
The gun went off during that struggle and Cage was shot in the side. The relative then beat the teenager with the weapon, police said.
Both Cage and Bruer were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Bruer remains in critical condition, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies have not arrested anyone involved in the fight.
