A 74-year-old woman died Tuesday night after a dump truck hit the car she was riding in and an 18-wheeler pushed the car into the concrete median.
Baton Rouge police Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said Ethel Phillips, 2014 Pecan Ridge Ave., Baton Rouge, was a passenger in the Toyota Camry that was struck at 12:47 p.m. on Interstate 12 west near Airline Highway and died from her injuries.
The dump truck did not stop and police are still searching for its driver, McKneely said.
The driver of the Camry lost control after being struck by the dump truck and was then pinned against the median by the 18-wheeler.
The driver of the Camry suffered minor injuries while the driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
The crash clo sed one lane of traffic westbound for several hours.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who may have any information about it is urged to contact police at (225) 389-7819.
