3 main shows comprise ballet season

The world-renowned company, Ailey II: the holiday favorite, The Nutcracker—A Tale from the Bayou; and the premiere of full length classical Snow White, will make up the Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre’s 2013-14 main stage season on the Baton Rouge River Center Theatre for the Performing Arts stage.

The ballet company will begin its season by hosting the second company of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Ailey II.

This group will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20. It will be Ailey II’s second Baton Rouge visit.

The season continues with the holiday tradition, The Nutcracker — A Tale from the Bayou, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 21-22.

The Nutcracker—A Tale from the Bayou incorporates local landmarks and features world-class guest artists, the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and more than 300 area children.

The seven dwarves will join Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre company members in Snow White on stage at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2014.

This original, full-length work is choreographed, designed and staged by Winthrop Corey, artistic director of Moblie Ballet and former principal dancer of Canada’s Royal Ballet and National Ballet of Canada.
