All-star soccer games special for players, coaches

High school all-star games are designed to honor special players. Two Baton Rouge coaches, Chris Goodall and Bo Cassidy, also will be showcased at Saturday’s Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association/Louisiana High School Coaches Association All-Star soccer games.

Players report to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette for the one-day event starting at 8 a.m. The East-West girls game is set for 4 p.m., followed by the East-West boys contest at 7 p.m.

East Ascension’s Goodall is the East girls head coach, while Catholic High’s Cassidy is the East boys coach.

“I’ve been active with the coaches association for a few years now, and I was an assistant coach a couple of years ago,” Goodall said. “It’s quite an honor to get the chance to coach players from all over Louisiana who are the state’s best.

“This really is about the girls. It’s really like one last game, and a thank you for what they’ve given to their teams. And I think it will be a lot of fun.”

Cassidy agreed.

“For years, I’ve had the chance to coach against and watch a lot of the best players in the state,” Cassidy said. “Coaching in this game gives me the chance to coach a lot of those players from all over the state.

“I think it is going to be great for me as a coach but also for the players. They’ll get a chance to showcase their skills.”
