Our Views: A strong voice against violence

The Rev. John Raphael’s abiding sense of urgency about the violence wracking the streets of New Orleans gave moral clarity to the cause of making the city safer.

We hope that sense of urgency doesn’t die with Raphael, who succumbed to cancer in the last and perhaps most valiant fight of his life.

Raphael wasn’t afraid of big battles, as he demonstrated throughout a ministry largely dedicated to ending the senseless cycle of death gripping New Orleans’ most troubled neighborhoods.

Although the Rev. John Raphael is gone, we hope his message endures.
