The gated Mediterranean style home at 18510 Alligator Bayou Road has Swarovski crystal chandeliers on majestic 24-foot ceilings, marble floors and sophisticated elegance on a 3.46-acre estate just off Old Perkins Road in Prairieville.
But with all the glitz and glamour, we don’t think guests will experience that “museum feeling” that some big homes have.
Maybe it’s because comfortable window seats are below a soaring wall of 20-foot windows in the
living room. Perhaps it’s the inviting second-floor rear balcony overlooking a stocked fishing pond. Or it might be because the owner can catch supper in the pond and then fry it up in a second kitchen located in the garage.
Whatever the reason, this Mediterranean mansion in the middle of Cajun Country feels warm and inviting.
A gated entry leads to a driveway that circles in front of the home, where massive double doors
imported from Italy allow entrance to the foyer. Immediately, the ceiling soars to at least 24-feet (it’s probably higher).
After entry, guests walk past a custom curving staircase in the foyer, below a 24-light Swarovski chandelier, and under the balcony hall into a huge living room, where the ceiling height matches the foyer.
The wall of windows in this room is spectacular – the windows are at 20 feet tall, and have remote-controlled window dressings on the top sections.
Tall white columns line the living room and foyer, as well as the parlor on the right side of the foyer. A tall fireplace angles from one wall of the living room.
The home has a very open floor plan, with large rooms. Granite and marble are the primary materials used in the floors.
Separating the formal dining room and the breakfast room is the kitchen, a long room with a big granite island and granite counter tops.
Cabinetry is painted, and some of it has glass fronts. The island has a 5-burner Thermador cook top, and the nearby breakfast room has a bay wall of windows.
Behind the kitchen is the home’s two-car garage. The surprise here is there’s a second kitchen set up in a cove with a gas stove and a sink.
The previous owner would catch supper in the pond out back and fry it up in the garage with no mess, no fuss and no fried fish smell inside the house. Stairs lead to a small gym above the garage.
The master suite is on the opposite end of the 5,054-square-foot layout, and has marble floors and French doors to a private patio.
The marble master bath features a 6-foot Jacuzzi tub below bay windows dressed in plantation shutters. There are two vanities, one for him and a larger one with a makeup desk for her. There’s also a pedestal sink that stands below a skylight at the opposite end of the Jacuzzi from the walk-in shower.
At the top of the beautiful, winding custom staircase in the foyer are three bedrooms and two full baths.
One of the bedrooms has an exit to the second floor balcony, which provides views of the pond and the back of the estate.
There’s a big Quonset hut in the back that could handle storage duty for just about any size boat or RV. There are also orange, lemon and grapefruit trees on the property.
Don’t miss your chance to see this beautiful Prairieville home. It will be kept open today from 2-4 p.m.
