Patchwork Players ¬†opening¬†kids’ show

Tickets are on sale for the Patchwork Players’ production of Rumplestilskin, which opens Tuesday, July 9, on the Lagniappe Stage at Rivertown Theaters for the Performing Arts, 325 Minor St. Kenner.

The play is set for two performances each day at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, July 9-12 and July 15-19; and one performance at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20.

Tickets are $8.

The late Buzz Podewell, founder of Patchwork Players, and his troupe of zany actors had been acting silly for so long that grandmothers remember coming to the shows as kids.

Since 1984, each June and July they performed two different plays at the Rogers Memorial Chapel on the Tulane uptown campus.

The company has been popular over the years, presenting a different program every four years.

Company members dance, sing, tell jokes and interact with audience members, engaging several tots in the cast at each performance.

Cast members are Gary Rucker as Rumpelstiltskin, Greg Stratton as the trusty narrarator, Stephen Eckert as Prince Foraday, Mike Harkins as Glenn the Miller, Chrissy Garrett and Queen Foraday and Shelley Johnson as Anne the Miller’s daughter.

Jessica Podewell is the director.
