Delgado Community College announced Tuesday that baseball coach Joe Scheuermann has been named the college’s third athletic director.
Scheuermann will assume the position July 1 following current Athletic Director Tommy Smith’s retirement, which is effective June 30. Scheuermann will also remain the baseball coach.
Scheuermann is the son of program founder and former coach Louis “Rags” Scheuermann, who served as Delgado’s first athletic director and baseball coach until 1986.
On being named athletic director, Scheuermann said: “It’s a great honor to be given the opportunity to lead and continue the great tradition of Delgado athletics.”
“Joe Scheuermann has built an impressive reputation nationally as a brilliant coach and an outstanding teacher who helps his student-athletes find and stay on the path to success and personal fulfillment,” Chancellor Monty Sullivan said.
