Two New Orleans mixologists — Nathan Dalton, of Felipe’s Taqueria, and Steve Yamada, of Tivoli and Lee — are among the 60 people from around the world named to the Tales of the Cocktail’s 2013 Cocktail Apprentice Program.
The apprentices will have the opportunity to learn alongside mixology experts during the Tales of the Cocktail festival, which will be in New Orleans in July, a news release said. They were selected on the basis of craft, expertise and experience.
They also will be eligible for the Cocktail Apprentice Scholarship Program to pursue additional learning opportunities.
The Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse heat index menu has returned.
On Monday through Friday, a dish from the New Orleans restaurant’s bar menu will be priced at the day’s projected heat index. For example, if the heat index is 97 degrees, the item will be priced at $9.70.
The menu item and price will be posted on the restaurant’s facebook page and twitter page @DBSteakhouse.
The restaurant is at 716 Iberville St. in the French Quarter.
A new Sicilian-Italian restaurant is set to open in New Orleans’ central business district later this month.
The restaurant, called cibugnù, is at 709 St. Charles Ave.
The kitchen will be helmed by chef Octavio Ycaza, who previously worked at Domenica, Rio Mar and Tony Moran’s.
A news release said the casual eatery’s menu will feature Sicilian-style cuisine with an emphasis on local and seasonal ingredients. Guests will be able to view the kitchen staff making pasta, and a vintage meat slicer also will be in open view. The idea, Ycaza said, is to allow “our guests to interact with the staff and be part of the process.”
It will offer an all-Italian wine list and Italian-centric cocktails developed by bartender Jason Lee, of Domenica.
The restaurant’s name is a blending of the Italian words for food (cibo) and dream (sogno) with a Sicilian pronunciation.
Dining hours initially will be limited to dinner service only from Wednesday to Sunday.
