The Louisiana Girls Leadership Academy was held at Nicholls State University June 9-12. The theme was “Light the Torch and Lead.” LGLA endeavors to develop leadership and responsible citizenship among high school girls.
Forty-seven girls from 13 parishes attended LGLA. They were broken up into eight groups. On the last day each group presented a project on how to save energy. Judges for the projects were Bill Peperone, who is retired from Entergy Services, Demetric Mercadel of Entergy New Orleans and Shannon Chaisson of Our Lady of Holy Cross College.
Ayla Brown, an "American Idol" semifinalist, was the keynote speaker at the closing ceremonies.
