Fundraising Development specialist Jenny Ridge gave a report about the “Beat the Odds” casino night and silent auction when the Mental Health Association held its monthly board meeting on May 16.
Executive Director Melissa Silva announced that two board members were selected for awards. President Grace Bielkiewicz was selected by the Women’s Council of Greater Baton Rouge as a Silver Magnolia. Charles Bennett received the Home Instead “Salute to Senior” Award for Louisiana.
Before the meeting, members and other stakeholders of the Mental Health Association discussed Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities progress. The MHA is on target for accreditation in January 2014.
State Regent Bonnie Pepper Cook installed 2013-15 officers of the John James Audubon Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution on May 20 at the East Baton Rouge Parish Bluebonnet Regional Branch Library: Regent Geraldine Ryder, Vice Regent Carole Gloger, Chaplain Lynda Normand, Recording Secretary Georgia LaCour, Corresponding Secretary Essie Mongeau, Treasurer Carole Savoie, Registrar Betty Jo Snellgrove, Historian Margaret Tyler and Librarian Liz Walker.
Outgoing Regent Margaret Tyler welcomed guests, including Past Honorary State Regent Lee Barry. Good Citizen Essay winner Ashley Alexander of Dutchtown High School told of her plans for her further education and received a gift from the chapter.
Cook presented a 50-year membership pin and ribbon to Claire Yeargain.
Lee Porche spoke about the Passing of the Flag event to be held in July at the Harley-Davidson dealership. Members will attend and distribute American flags.
Tyler spoke about the cherry trees that will be planted near the bust of George Washington by the old Arsenal. A dedication ceremony will be held during the summer.
Normand memorialized members who passed away during the past year: Jeanette Bilisoly, Danie Singleton and Anne Belle Tolleson.
Tyler presented everyone with a walking iris plant, the symbol of the new state administration. Outgoing officers were given sets of Tabasco coasters. Meeting hostesses were Rita Sibley, Shirley Newsham, Walker and Gloger.
