Alligator hunting bids deadline Thursday

Thursday at 10 a.m. is the deadline for alligator hunters to submit bids for taking the reptiles from state wildlife management areas and Army Corps of Engineers lands for the 2013-2015 wild alligator harvest seasons.

There is a list of qualifications bidders must meet to be eligible to enter the bid process: Qualified, eligible hunters are chosen through a bid system held every three years for state/federal properties. Completed big forms/aplications need to meet that deadline time and date and must be in Room 240 at State Wildlife and Fisheries headquarters on Quail Drive in Baton Rouge.

Hunting for the next three seasons will be on Grassy Lake, Spring Bayou, Pomme de Terre, Attakapas, Sherburne, Dewey Wills, Manchac, Pearl River, Joyce, Maurepas Swamp, Atchafalaya Delta, Pointe-aux-Chenes, Salvador and Pass-a-Loutre WMAs, and the Corps’ Indian Bayou property in St. Landry and St. Martin parishes.

LDWF managers indicated 29 alligator hunting “opportunities” are available with 12-to-83 tags for each “opportunity” depending on area.

The public bid notice is available on the LDWF’s website: http://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/wildlife/alligator-hunting, or by calling Lance Campbell at (337) 373-0032.
