The state House of Representatives passed a bill Monday that would expand the $7,500 homestead exemption to veterans rated as “totally disabled”or “unemployable.”
The current exemption applies only to veterans rated as 100 percent disabled by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Senate Bill 96, sponsored by state Sen. Robert Adley, R-Benton, would require a parish-wide election in parishes that have not previously approved the 100 percent disabled exemption for injured veterans.
If passed, the exemption would take effect Jan. 1, 2015.
