16 to be presented at ‘Evening with the Debutantes’

The Baton Rouge Delta Development Corp. and Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. will present 16 debutantes at their annual Grand Cotillion at the Crowne Plaza Baton Rouge on Aug. 3.

The debutantes will be introduced to the community to signal the beginning of the cotillion season Sunday during an annual Debutante Presentation Tea, “An Evening with the Debutantes,” at the Baton Rouge Delta House, 926 Harding Blvd.

Members of the 2013 coterie of debutantes are Briasia LaRaé Brown, daughter of Terri B. Bush, of Prairieville, and Rev. Bobby Showers Jr., of Covington; Chelsea Brianna Brown, daughter of Stephen and Nancy Reed and the late Reginald R. Brown Jr.; Kristina Alexandra Bynum, daughter of Rosetta A. and Stanford Bynum Sr.; Laina Danielle Dabney, daughter of Kim Singleton Dabney and Joe L. Dabney; Brittany Nicole Dixon, daughter of Ruby and Lee T. Dixon Jr.; Tyra Jené Flowers, daughter of Tangi A. Briasia LaRaé Brown is the granddaughter of Ezell Brown and Etta Brown, both of Darrow, and Oralene and the Rev. Bobby R. Showers Sr., of Hammond. She is a senior at East Ascension High School in Gonzales, and is a member of Jewels and Gems Mentoring Program of Divine Grace Temple and Teens Living for Christ (T.L.C.). Her sponsor is Doris G. Brown, president of the Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.

Chelsea Brianna Brown is the granddaughter of Rosalie and Arthur Noflin Sr. and Dr. Juanita Brown Bradford and Constable Major Reginald R. Brown Sr. She is a senior at Baton Rouge Magnet High School, where she is a member of the Key Club, Travel Club and Dance Club. Her sponsors are her mother and her grandmother, Juanita Brown Bradford, both members of Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter.

Kristina Alexandra Bynum is the granddaughter of Lanis K. Barnes, of Baker, and the late James Anderson and the late Barbara Ann Bynum. She is a senior at Zachary High School, and is a member of the school Color Guard, Future Business Leaders of America, Girl Scouts of America, National Honor Society, the ZHS bowling team and the Mount Carmel of Baton Rouge Youth Choir. Her sponsors are her aunt, Christine Anderson, and Betty Jackson, both members of Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter.

Laina Danielle Dabney is the granddaughter of Joyce S. Singleton and the late Rudolph Singleton and the late Ella and Thomas Dabney Sr. She is a 2013 graduate of Southern University Lab School, where she was class salutatorian, a member of Senior Beta, cheerleading captain, volleyball team captain, WAFB Sports Scholar 2013 and Ms. Southern High 2012-2013. She is a member of New St. John Baptist Church, where she serves on the Youth Usher Board. Her sponsors are Patricia Sterling and Mamye L. Hall, members of Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter.

Brittany Nicole Dixon is the granddaughter of the late Charlie and Gladys Lewis and the late Joyce and Lee T. Dixon Sr. She is a 2013 graduate of McKinley High School, and was a Blue Diamonds basketball dancer, and a member of the Essence Elite dance team and the All-Parish Choir. Her sponsor is Mamye L. Hall, a member of Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter.

Tyra Jené Flowers is the granddaughter of the late Dorothy and Alfred Porterie Sr. and the late Charles Morris Flowers and the late Georgia Williams Gibson. She is a 2013 graduate of Tara High School, where she was a Dancing Doll. She is a member of St. Frances Xavier Sacred Dance Ministry and St. Francis Xavier Youth Choir. Her sponsor is her cousin, Anita J. Liggins, a member of Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter.

Christa Nicole Hayes is the granddaughter of the late Arthur and Bernice Flowers and Sylvester Hayes, of Mobile, Ala., and the late Marzella C. Hayes. She is a senior at Zachary High School, where she is a member of the Drama Department. She is also a cast member of the Baton Rouge Theatre Summer Camp. Her sponsor is Florence C. Curry, a member of Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter.

Ta’Quincya Andrea Marie Hitchens is the granddaughter of Donna Brown Hitchens, Demetris Hitchens and the late Debra Brown. She is a 2013 graduate of Woodlawn High School, where she was a member of the school’s Advanced Choir. She is also a member of Promised Land Baptist Church Youth Ministry and the youth choir. Her sponsor is Avery E. Cook, a member of Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter.

Jaila Zikeya Jones is the granddaughter of Bernice Stewart Carter, a member of Baton Rouge Sigma Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and the late Chester A. Carter and Larry and Cynthia Jones, of Fordoche. She is a senior at Madison Preparatory Academy in Baton Rouge, where she is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Lambda Tau sorority, Student Government and the track team. Her sponsor is Alma W. Cherry, a member of Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter.

Onyx Aja Joseph is the granddaughter of Shirley N. Horton and the late Morris W. Horton and Audrey and Oscar Joseph Jr. She is a senior at McKinley High School, where she is a member of the Blue Diamonds dance team, the gospel choir and softball team. She is also a member of the Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church Youth Choir, Girl Scouts and Dance Ministry. Brionna Jewel Tzaddi King is the granddaughter of Major and Vivian Jackson King, of Baker, and the late Robbye Robinson Henderson. She is a senior at Zachary High School, where she is a member of the Color Guard, Beta Club and Future Business Leaders of America. Her sponsor is Doris G. Brown, president of Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter.

Mitzi Bisola Kogas is the granddaughter of Leonard C. Kinchen Sr. and the late Francis V. Kinchen; Eloise Wells, of Batchelor, and the late James Wells; and Zainab Olukoga, of Lagos, Nigeria, and the late Sulainan Olukoga. She is a senior at Baton Rouge Magnet High School, where she is a member of the You Got Served! Community Service Club, Youth Alive and the Art Club. She was recognized as a Taylor Scholar by the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation. Her sponsor is Florence Curry, a member of Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter.

Asia Laquentina McCray is the granddaughter of James McCoy Sr., of Zachary, and the late Ethel G. McCoy and the late Joanna and Richard McCray Sr. She is a senior at Zachary High School, where she is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America and the Flag Team. She also participates in Zachary Youth Park Softball and the Greater New Hope Baptist Church Youth Choir. Her sponsor is Betty F. Jackson, a member of Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter.

Ashley Nicole Morgan is the granddaughter of Elijah Hearns, of New Orleans, and the late Helen Hearns and the late Susie and Earnest Morgan. She is a senior at Southern University Lab School, where she is a member of the Senior Beta Club and a recipient of the Nelrose Jordan Academic Award in 2012. Her sponsor is her sister-in-law, Quinesha P. Morgan, a member of Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter.

Destiney Faith O’Conner is the granddaughter of Bishop Claude and Deborah White, of Port Allen, and Grant and Monica Mealie. She is a 2013 graduate of Scotlandvillle Magnet High School, where she was a member of the Delta GEMS, Student Government Association and Distributive Education Clubs of America. Her sponsor is Kelly J. Albert, a member of Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter.

Erica Denise Washington is the granddaughter of Ellis and Della Washington and the late Ida Mae McCoy. She is a senior at Woodlawn High School, where she is a member of the track team, flag team and Upward Bound. Her sponsors are Donna P. Washington and Rita M. Parham, members of Baton Rouge Delta.
