The Mangham High baseball team and Catholic-Pointe Coupee softball team claimed the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s 1A state titles. The two champions parlayed their success into prominent placement on the 2013 Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Class 1A All-State squads.
Pitcher Ryann Bizette, an eighth grader (15-1, 1.02 ERA, 124 strikeouts), freshman Katelynn Bellelo (.443, 26 RBI) and senior Jordyn David (.383, 20 RBI, 12 2B) represent CHSPC on the 1A softball team.
“This is awesome for us,” Catholic-PC coach Lauren Castle Doucet said. “You’ve got a senior who took on a huge leadership role and then a freshman and an eighth-grader, which bodes well for our future.
“All three of those girls worked very hard to improve different facets of their game. They all got moved from one position to maybe one or two others by the changes we needed to make. And all of them were willing to go wherever we asked.”
