Sara Barnard has been named director of sales and marketing for The Advocate in New Orleans.
Barnard joined The Advocate staff in September as sales manager for the New Orleans edition, working out of the Baronne Street office. In her new position, she will supervise the advertising sales staff while pursuing marketing partnerships with community and civic groups to raise the newspaper’s profile in the Crescent City.
The Advocate also announced that Yvette Dellucky, a veteran Times-Picayune salesperson and manager, has joined the advertising staff.
“Yvette has strong ties in the New Orleans market,” Barnard said. “She worked at The Times-Picayune for more than 30 years.”
“We want to be very supportive of the New Orleans community,” said Barnard, who spent eight years as classified advertising director for The Times-Picayune before she joined The Advocate.
The Advocate sponsored the French Quarter Festival last month and will sponsor this weekend’s New Orleans Greek Festival, Barnard said. The newspaper also has a partnership with the Arts Council of New Orleans.
“I really feel like the community has embraced us,” she said. “We are really working hard to provide a quality product that readers deserve.”

Barnard earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Tulane University and has held office on the Newcomb Alumnae Association Board. She has an extensive media background, working for Village Voice Media, Knight-Ridder Digital, Tribune/Times Mirror and The Atlanta Journal Constitution.
