Letter: Progressives may not see progress

Recently The Advocate juxtaposed its near-weekly plaint regarding our “absentee” governor to a cartoon showing a caricature of Bobby Jindal in a straightjacket, mouthing the words: “Any Republican that’s thinking about running for president in 2016 needs to have his head examined” (see “Our Views,” May 17).

The implication was clear. My mind drifted back to that era in my (now-spent) youth when Louisiana’s governor actually did run the state from an asylum. Back then, voters merely chuckled and muttered, “It’s Uncle Earl again.” Ironically, my so-called “progressive” friends often fail to see progress when it stares them in the face.
