Investigators suspect a lightning strike early Saturday ignited a blaze that caused heavy damage to a building, which housed two businesses, the Baker Fire Department said.

Firefighters responded at 5:30 a.m. Saturday to the fire at 4504 Groom Road, the location of Rose’s Florist & Gift Shop and IH Tax Service, spokesman Howard Ward said in a news release.

Firefighters encountered fire and smoke, which resulted in heavy damage to the metal and brick structure.

Nobody was in the building at the time, Ward said.

Thunderstorms rumbled through the area early Saturday, leading investigators to suspect that lightning caused the fire, Ward said.
